Mission Projects

Underwood Hills has made a commitment to do charitable work in Christ's name in, but not limited to, the community in which it calls home.
Crossroad Connections:
Underwood Hills offers spiritual guidance and support to individuals who are leaving or getting ready to leave the Work Release Center at the Omaha Correctional Center in Omaha. Sunday night worship services are offered to the inmates and those recently released, along with their family. A dinner is provided afterwards. A counseling program is also offered through the church to those individuals who have struggled with addictions. A Wednesday night group, which meets at 7:30 is facilitated by Roy Fox and Mike Rush, members of the congregation with counseling experience. Individual appointments can be set up as needed. Roy has been instrumental in getting this project continued. Two houses are also provided through Crossroads for recently released individuals who need a temporary place to stay while on parole. UHPC partners with other churches in the community to provide these services.
Siena-Francis House:
Underwood Hills has had an on-going partnership with the homeless shelter Siena-Francis House in providing needed articles including clothing, toiletries and toilet paper. In fact, when the call goes out to the congregation for toilet paper, rolls upon rolls are collected. (Siena-Francis House)
Habitat for Humanity:
A more recent partnership for mission work has been developed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity in building houses for impoverished families. One of the members of Underwood Hills, Anne Carroll, has been involved with Habitat for a number of years, and has worked on houses around the world.
Other Mission Work:
As a loving congregation, UHPC also adopts one or more families at Christmas, providing food for a holiday dinner, some staples and gifts for each family member. It lets our seniors know that they are not forgotten when our youth group makes and delivers Valentines to residents of nursing homes and own homebound members. UHPC also provides a home for other, smaller ministries (Crossroads Connection) that worship Sunday evenings in our sanctuary. UHPC sent missionaries to the Gulf Coast in 2006 as part of the relief effort after hurricane Katrina.. During the summer UHPC gives away bottles of water and bracelets at the annual Benson Arts Festival. The church sponsors Boy Scout Troop #388, and opens its doors to Parents Without Partners, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Voices for Dignity, along with other community organizations.
